norwalk city hall

Norwalk, Iowa

The City of Norwalk took advantage of the relocation of Public Works Department to a new FEH DESIGN designed facility to completely remodel and transform the existing Norwalk City Hall. Apparatus bays of the original building were converted to office space and City Council Chambers; and Administrative areas were completely gutted and reconfigured. Complete new electrical and mechanical systems were provided including a geothermal HVAC system utilizing a horizontal bore field that extends beneath the building. An expanded vestibule and extended canopy present a welcoming entrance to the facility. New extended overhangs and sunscreens add visual interest while demonstrating sustainable design strategies to the public and allowing great views and daylighting while minimizing solar heat gain. The site was also completely reconfigured to provide a significant amount of green space and landscaped areas providing a more appealing civic presence for this thriving Iowa community.
